Rose found her "Earth Angel" thanks to your support

Late last year I became the fourth sister in my family to face a breast cancer diagnosis.

Even though there were three of us already with cancer there was still that, ‘Oh my gosh’. There was disbelief.

I was quickly scheduled for surgery, followed by intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

It was just after my first round of chemo that I was put in touch with my Cancer Society nurse Jan, my ‘Earth Angel’.

Jan would explain my symptoms, what I’m going through and what other Cancer Society services are available. When I’m feeling a bit down, I’ll talk to Jan and she helps me put things in perspective.

I have also received a lot of support from my 16-year-old daughter Samantha, especially when my hair started to fall out during my chemo

I didn’t realise how important my hair was to me…One day I took my hair tie out and a big chunk of hair came out. I just welled up inside, and thought ‘Oh my goodness, I’m losing part of who I am.’

I burst into tears and Samantha came over and gave me a big hug and said ‘Mum, you’re not your hair. You’re beautiful the way you are, you don’t need hair.’

Despite an emotional journey, I have kept a positive outlook.

I could probably just pull the covers over. But why? There is a lot of love out there and a lot of support.
