Advocacy

 Become a community advocate

One of Cancer Society Auckland's key goals is to reduce the incidence of cancer.  We do this by advocating to local and central government to create policies that will reduce cancer rates in our communities.  Our organisation relies on motivated members of the public (community advocates) to help highlight issues around cancer to local and central government.

Our community advocate programme involves attending training workshops and carrying out a range of different activities including:

  • Telling your personal story
  • Writing submissions/letters to decision makers
  • Writing letters to the editor
  • Mobilizing your networks to demonstrate community support
