Essential support when it’s needed most
Every day Cancer Society nurses provide essential support to hundreds of cancer patients. No one is more active in our communities, helping cancer patients during what can be one of the most difficult times of their lives.
As cancer patient Alec knows, a diagnosis can turn your world upside down. He explains:
“As soon as the doctor said ‘it’s cancer’ I went numb. I don’t remember the rest of the day at all. I don’t remember what she said next or what I did.”
Thankfully Alec was able to get essential support from his Cancer Society nurse Tanja, who is pictured above. He explains:
“I said things to Tanja that I couldn’t say to my family… I could talk to Tanja when I was having a really bad day and didn’t want to tell anyone else. She could tell how I was feeling just by looking at me.”
Tanja is a fully qualified nurse, so Alec knew he could ask the really tough questions and she would have the answers. It helped relieve the stress and anxiety he was feeling.
Alec is so grateful for the support that your donations made possible. He explains:
“Before I had cancer I didn’t realise how important Cancer Society’s services are… Having Tanja alongside helped me get through. I was never on my own.”
Thank you for being part of the team providing practical support, care and information to people with cancer.
Please consider making a donation to help nurses like Tanja provide essential support to their patients.
