Smoking is the leading preventable cause of cancer worldwide.
The more children see smoking the more likely they are to start. Smokefree places help to prevent young people from starting to smoke and help support people to quit. Making Smokefree public places around Auckland is a positive step to reduce the number of people smoking and improve health for Aucklanders.
Cancer Society works closely with Auckland Council and other organisations to create Smokefree public places around Auckland. Our work with Auckland Council has resulted in Council committing to making all public places Smokefree and setting a goal to be Smokefree by 2025 (which means that there will be very low smoking rates).
